Why is Support for Muslim Women so important?
The Muslim community in Cambridge is culturally diverse with many Muslim women disadvantaged due to a number of factors - lack of social support networks, low socio-economic circumstances, as well as language and culture barriers which affect access to mainstream services.
The problems that women encounter in every day life are greater for those who grew up outside of the UK. The knock-on affect is that those women who have left their families and home environment can feel lonely and isolated when they arrive in a strange country.
What will be offered for Women?
A place where language and nationality is not a barrier and, where Islam is central to the culture of all our members and, an environment where Muslim women can observe the customs of their faith and culture without embarrassment or restriction. A venue where they can meet socially, attend classes and workshops and receive advice and support.
We aim to:
Create an environment in which Muslim Women can feel safe and comfortable
Deliver opportunities for learning, for adults and young people that are immediately relevant to their needs
Encourage adults and young people to progress through the education system and gain further qualifications
Support people new to Islam and to this country in adjusting to an unfamiliar system
Provide a social network for individuals, within which they can flourish and grow
